CHRISTMAS WREATH MAKING WORKSHOP, URMSTON
A friend of mine said to me today that she had read a caption that said “when you buy from a local business, an actual person does a happy dance”. She said this during our wreath making workshop that we both attended in our local town, Urmston.
We are both self employed and in fact once we got talking to the group, there was around 7 of us that all ran our own local businesses. This got us all discussing about how special and personal it was when someone booked/purchased or simply said a nice thing about us. Running your own business is lovely, but at the same time so very emotional and stressful and in fact you never do switch off. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change it for the world now, but at times you do wonder why you take on all the responsibility when you could simply work for someone else. The reason we do it though is because we love what we do, it’s our passion and our dreams. This is why I choose local where I can and make sure we support in each other too. Another lady who makes cakes called Amae The Cake Boutique said “every time I make a cake a little piece of my heart goes with it” this rang so true as I feel the same as a Photographer.
I love Rose and Bumble which is a little shop in Urmston, ran by the ever so friendly Caroline, which sells unique gifts and no matter who I am buying for I can always find something in here. More recently Caroline has teamed up with Clair from Patch to Posy who is a florist (who lives on an amazing farm in Urmston, growing everything herself) and when I heard they were hosting a wreath making workshop for Christmas I knew I had to attend. I have purchased my Christmas Wreaths from Clair for the past couple of years and they are just so gorgeous and rustic looking, with deep foliage, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, red berries and pine cones. I never thought I would be able to recreate something as nice, and in fact I couldn’t, certainly not without the expertise and guidance from Clair along the way. My wreath turned out amazing, even if it was the most unkept out of the group ! and now has pride of place on my front door as you can see from the image above.
We had such a lovely afternoon making the wreaths, listening to Christmas songs, eating mince pies and supping Caroline’s home made Mulled Cider. Finally, I certainly couldn’t leave without making a Christmas purchase to add to my collection. Please pop in and see Caroline and Clair at Rose and Bumble, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Please please please consider small businesses and support local where you can…..we really do do a happy dance xxxxx
Merry Christmas Everyone xxx
